Constitution Finder - The University of Richmond provides the full text online of constitutions for countries. The countries are presented in an alphabetical list that indicates if the text is in a language other than
English.

Country Commercial Guides - The Country Commercial Guides are detailed full text electronic reports prepared by experts on site at US embassies, assisted by various US Government agencies. The Commercial Guides contain a great deal of information and include an overview called "Executive Summary." Sections typically include "Political Environment," "Marketing U.S. Products and Services," "Trade Regulations and Standards," " Investment Climate," and more. The section on "Business Travel" includes succinct tips on the country's culture.

Country Reports on Human Rights Practices - “The Country Reports on Human Rights Practices are submitted annually by the U.S. Department of State to the U.S. Congress. The reports cover internationally recognized individual, civil, political, and worker rights, as set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.” You can read the full-text of current and past reports.

LANIC: Latin American Network Information Center - From the University of Texas, LANIC is a comprehensive site that seeks to “facilitate access to Internet-based information to, from, or on Latin America”. The category for the economy includes business, finance, and trade.

Market Access Database of the Commission of the European Union - Contains overviews of barriers to foreign companies in over 30 countries around the world.

Mbendi Information for Africa - Select the Country List (under Regions), which covers the world including Africa. After you select a country a pull-down menu includes a choice for “More for this Country”; one selection for example is “Doing Business”. The MBendi site might take more time to load from your part of the world but it is worth the wait!

Milbank Library Information Network - From the library of the national lawfirm Milbank Tweed Hadley &McCloy this a newly refreshed website.

Internet Public Library (IPL) “International Business Reference - The IPL International Business Reference link is a must! It is an annotated listing of high-quality sites; a number of the sites in this article were found through this IPL link. Mark Bernkopf's Central Banking Resource Center - The Central Banking Resource Center site brings sites with data about the Central Banks of countries around the world, as well as Ministries of Finance and Economics, Currency Boards, multilateral financial institutions, financial and economic conferences, bankers' institutes, and the history of Central Banks. Electronic Journal Miner - This site compiles catalog entries for over eight thousand electronic journals. The fields indexed include title, URL, abstract, Library of Congress (LC) subject headings, publication frequency, and contact information. Search by keyword, title, or subject.

Wilson Business Full Text, formerly Business Periodicals Index, Wilson Business Abstracts - H. W. Wilson Company A high-quality index and one most likely to be found in library business collections. Wilson Business Abstracts covers over 400 English-language general business periodicals and trade journals; many articles can be found on specific countries.

Gale Group F&S Index - The Gale Group F&S IndexTM covers both domestic and international company, product, and industry information. The database contains information on corporate acquisitions and mergers, new products, technological developments, and sociopolitical factors. Also included are analyses of companies by securities firms, forecasts of company sales and profits by company officers, and reports on factors influencing future sales and earnings (such as price changes, government antitrust actions, sales and licensing agreements, and joint venture agreements).

Gateway to Finance Information - The site introduction: "Our Virtual Finance Library is intended as a resource for academics and investors alike. Global Macroeconomic and Financial Policy Website - Nouriel Roubini, associate professor of economics and international business at the Stern School of Business, New York University, has updated his award-winning Global Macroeconomics and Financial Policy Site. A necessity for any economist, the newly redesigned site is much easier to navigate.

LEXIS-NEXIS - Reed Elsevier, Inc. The LEXIS-NEXIS services are full text on-line databases; this service holds more than 11,000 sources divided into 7,100 news and business sources and 4,800 legal sources divided by "Libraries" divided into "Files." There are files which cover foreign trade and regulations and some files include publications on political risk. The services are updated during the current day and, therefore, are excellent for news. The service is designed to "end users." Inquire about subscriptions. Some free but also fee-based.  

OCLC PAIS International - OCLC Public Affairs Information Service is a nonprofit publisher founded in 1914 and dedicated to providing better access to the literature of public affairs—current issues and actions that affect world communities, countries, people, and governments. For more than 80 years, OCLC PAIS has published indexes and abstracts that help people identify and locate documents about important political, economic, and social issues. It continues its mission today through the PAIS International database

OSU Virtual Finance Library - The index for OSU Virtual Finance Library includes a choice for “World Market” which leads to links organized by world area. The OSU Virtual Finance Library is from Ohio State University's Fisher College of Business, Department of Finance and is developed for “academia and investors alike.”

Euromonitor International - Founded in 1972, Euromonitor International is the longest-established provider of global strategic research. Their track record is reflected in the development of research network.

FINWeb - FINWweb is a clearinghouse of financial and economics related Internet resources, especially Web resources. The recourses are divided into journals, working papers, databases, miscellaneous, and other finance and economic Web servers.This is an impressive website which must be checked. Most resources are hotlinked.

Financial Data Finder - A very comprehensive listing of financial resources around the globe which are linked for ease of access. A must!

Guide to Law Online - Created by the US Law Library of Congress for the Global Legal Information Network (GLIN), this metasite indexes online resources for legal information worldwide. Most of the resources are briefly annotated, and all are free, quality sources of information. The index is fairly deep and divided into four primary sections: US, Nations, International and Multinational, and Subjects. The largest of these is the Nations section, which offers links to the constitution; executive, legislative, and judicial branches; legal guides; and general resources for over 200 countries.

International Affairs Resources - This site, which is part of the WWW Virtual Library, contains over 2000 links pertaining to international affairs. Check out the front page for a bevy of categories, including International and Comparative Education, World Religions, Health, and Global and Cross-Cultural Issues. Each page has a listing of sites in subcategories, with mostly good annotation.

International Economics Gateway (Alta Plana) - The International Economics Gateway presents links to Internet sites in four categories. The first, “Resource Pages and Data Archives,” lists sites with more general data and is followed by a list of “International Organization Pages.” The “National Government Pages” lead to statistics for several dozen countries while the “Corporate Servers” list companies and organizations concerned with international economic information.

The International Political Economy Network (IPENet) - The IPENet conducts an electronic discussion list “allowing persons around the world interested in International Political Economy to discuss matters of mutual concern.” The site also offers "An extensive collection of electronically retrievable documents related to the Global Political Economy." The choices include geographic and thematic archives.

International Real Estate Digest (IRED) - IRED claims to have 50,000 links to real estate sites worldwide. Here you can list your new real estate Internet site. The sites are searchable and listed by state, country and category of real estate. IRED also mounts discussion forums and news items.

WESTLAW - There is some overlap with LEXIS-NEXIS, but WESTLAW claims to offer more business information.

Yahoo! “Countries” - Yahoo! is unlike the other Internet resources listed in this section because it is anything but “selective.” Indeed Yahoo! might define “comprehensive” among Internet organizing tools. It is included here because its main menu has a choice for “Countries” under “Regional.” This choice will bring a list of countries by name. It immediately apparent that this tool is more useful for the countries that are less a part of the “information highway” You will probably use Yahoo! then for the manageable amount of Internet links it provides for countries such as Cambodia, Ethiopia, or Paraguay than for the thousands it provides for China or Australia.

Business Environment Risk Intelligence, S.A. (BERI, S.A.) - BERI S.A. is the private source for risk ratings, analyses, and forecasts for over 140 countries. Economic, financial, monetary, operating, and political conditions are integral components of the zero (worst case) - 100 (best case) system for assessing countries. Panels of professionals with many years of experience in a region of the world submit their assessments for the Operations Risk Index (ORI) and the Political Risk Index (PRI) three times per year.

Country Data: Political Risk Services (PRS) - Publisher of political risk evaluation services and provides free "Sample information from Political Risk Services databases" for some 100 countries through its Internet site. This site provides a considerable amount of data through its "Fact Sheet" and discussions of the country's geography, history, international relationships, social conditions, economic conditions, sources of power, climate for business, and political actors.

Country Risk Analysis - Campbell R. Harvey, Fuqua School of Business, Duke University has an Internet site for international finance. Included is Country Risk Analysis which presents a large amount of full-text country risk data for which as of this writing there is no fee. Data is specific to individual countries.

Macroeconomic Resources - An Internet site mounted by Alexander Dyck, Assistant Professor at Harvard Business School of sites rated by Dyck/Reinhardt Rating System on the usefulness of different websites.

The Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) - EIU publishes the following specific titles specific to political risk: Country Forecasts; Country Reports; Country Risk Service; EIU Trade Wire; Research Reports. These are all fee-based reports.

International Risk & Payment Review - Dun & Bradstreet Information Services. This D & B monthly publication covers over 100 countries. The service report on the economy, political, currency exchange restrictions, and delays other traders are experiencing. The Review recommends payment and credit terms. In addition an indicator based upon economic, socio-political, and commercial variables assesses and ranks each country's comparative risk. The service is fee-based.

Moodys Investors Services

FISonline, formerly Moody's Financial Information Services - FISonline is a subscription-based service offering over 10,000 U.S. public companies and 17,000 non-U.S. public companies. FISonline is offered to you from Mergent, Inc. -- the preferred source for global business and financial information. Formerly known as Moody's Financial Information Services, Mergent has been publishing detailed business descriptions, corporate histories and financial statements since 1900.

Standard & Poors - Standard & Poor's Ratings Services issue services which offer investors global coverage of debt issuers, with outstanding ratings on more than 30,000 bonds and preferred stock issues of some 5,600 companies in North America, Europe, Japan, and Australasia, and more than 13,000 municipal, state, sovereign, and supranational entities, and 10,000 structured debt issues. Their two main services, fee- based, are: ERIS, Electronic Rating Information Service and Sovereign Reports
