Business Forum- Post-Olympic China: Business
Opportunities and Challenges for U.S.-Based Technology
Firms.
Background
China is not only the world’s most populous nation; it is also the world’s third largest trader, second largest economy in purchasing power parity GDP, and the largest recipient of foreign direct investment, surpassing even the U.S. China has 170 cities with more than 1 million people, 500 million subscribers to wireless phone services, and accounts for over 12% of the world’s luxury goods. It has over a trillion dollars in foreign reserves. China’s “quick march” economic growth presents new opportunities and challenges for U.S.-based firms. The Fifth and Eighth Georgia Tech Global Business Forum on China, in 1999 and 2002, tracked China’s growth on the verge of the new century. Six years later, we turn our attention again to a new China and how U.S.-based firms can define opportunities and address challenges in the wake of the Olympic Games of Beijing.
Who Should Attend?
This one-day global business forum is designed to be intensive and specific for business decision-makers, strategic business planners, export, marketing and operations managers, top professionals, legal practitioners, consultants, and academics with a special interest in China and the business impacts of its continuing growth and globalization. We suggest sending a team of executives to the Forum because pursuing international markets affects the entire company. This forum dovetails with the return of the Georgia delegation trip to China in April led by Governor Perdue to open Georgia’s new representative office in Beijing.
Forum’s Major Emphases:
- Identifying market opportunities in China for U.S.-based firms in various promising sectors;
- Where, when, and how to build your China market;
- Market entry and joint venture strategies;
- Overcoming regulatory and cultural obstacles; and
- Understanding the evolution of the national environment
